Senior Woman journalist held in Mumbai for conspiring to kill J Dey

Senior crime reporter Jigna Vora was arrested by the Mumbai police crime branch on Friday in connection with the murder of veteran journalist J Dey, who had been gunned down by a group of six assailants allegedly deputed by underworld don Chhota Rajan at Powai on June 11. Vora, who works for well known English daily Asian Age's Mumbai edition, was part of the conspiracy that had been hatched in the run-up to the heinous murder which had sent shockwaves across the country.

Before her, the crime branch had arrested 10 more persons, including top cricket bookie Vinod Ashrani and key Chhota Rajan sharpshooter Satish Kalya in connection with the murder and invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to the case. Vora would be produced in the designated MCOCA court later during the day where police would seek her further custody.
Meanwhile, sources in the crime branch disclosed that during investigation, the crime branch sleuths came across a series of telephonic conversations between Vora and Rajan prior to the murder.
"She was instrumental in providing Dey's motorcycle registration number and the route/s the scribe usually took to reach his office or home at Powai," sources said.
Sources claimed that Vora had e-mailed two articles written by Dey in Mid Day in May-June this year. Rajan had claimed, following Dey's murder that Dey had painted him in bad light through those articles which smacked of his "Gaddari" (betrayal) and switching loyalty to his rival Chhota Shakeel gang.
Sources in the Rajan gang however, claimed that Dey had crossed swords with Vora ever since the latter started getting closer to Rajan's close aide Farid Tanasha. Vora was jealous of Dey's proximity to Tanasha, who Dey knew since over a decade, and the duo had a face off outside Tanasha's house in Tilak Nagar last year. Farid was gunned down by shooters allegedly deputed by his friend-turned foe in the gang, Bharat Nepali, in June last year.
